For those in recovery, September is a time to look back and appreciate where you are at in life. Recovery is not an easy road. It can be hard to find and even harder to maintain. For individuals leaving a treatment center for the first time, trying to remain sober for a year or more can sound intimidating and even impossible; but it is all about taking it one day at a time.
Though being years sober is quite an accomplishment, this month is not about competition, it is to celebrate and commemorate each and every one of us currently in recovery – whether for 30 years or for 3 days – each is just as remarkable.
2019 Marks the 30th Anniversary of SAMHSA’s National Recovery Month!
Every year, a new focus and theme is selected to spread the message and share the successes of treatment and recovery. The 2019 Recovery Month theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger,” emphasizes the need to share resources and build networks across the country that support recovery in all its forms. Promote National Recovery Month on Social Media
Help promote National Recovery by acknowledging it on your social media accounts. SAMHSA provides multiple images and banners to represent and show your support. They even offer HTML code to add a banner to your website so people can click through to their site. Through these means, we can help SAMHSA spread awareness of the importance of recovery.
Host an Event
If you are interested, you can host your own event to help spread awareness of mental illness and substance abuse. Hosting an event allows people to come together to show support as well as learn about people’s experiences and successes in recovery. To learn how to organize an event, visit SAMHSA’s website.
