Dr. Barnett is Coalition Recovery’s Medical Director and we are grateful to work with such a distinguished individual. She has over 20 years of experience as a Medical Doctor in the addiction space. She holds an astounding four board certifications in Psychiatry (Addiction, General, Forensic & Geriatric). Dr. Barnett is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and currently serves as Chapter President of the Tampa Area Florida Psychiatric Association. Dr. Barnett has been awarded the Practitioner of the Year Award for 2018 from the Florida Psychiatric Society.
Dr. Barnett received her undergraduate education from Birmingham-Southern College. She became a Medical Technologist, then proceeded to medical school at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. She received the Department of Radiology Research Award, and the Eugene Bondurant Award for Excellence in Psychiatry. For her psychiatric training, she completed an internship and residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. After obtaining board certification in General Psychiatry, she obtained board certifications in Geriatric Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry.
She has been in the private practice of psychiatry and was the Medical Director for the Agency for Community Treatment Services in Tampa for nearly five years. ACTS serves persons with addictions and co-occurring disorders. She conducted a clinic at Tri-County Services for the treatment of persons with co-occurring disorders for nearly ten years. She incorporates evidence-based practices in her management of addictive disorders. She has been certified as a Medical Review Officer.
